Domain Cancellation

Mike Tree shared this idea 6 years ago
Completed

Often customers do not wish domains to be renewed. There should be a method whereby a customer can cancel the domain renewal process (and associated invoice).

We constantly get support tickets from people wanting their invoices cnacelled, or worse - part cancelled). Also we get a lot of invoices that are just ignored by the customer, which we then have to cancel.

Hi,

Thanks for providing your feedback, as others have pointed out in the comments, this is already possible when auto-renew is disabled for a domain.

The reminder emails must still be sent our per ICANN regulations even if the user has indicated they do not wish to renew the domain in this way.

Yes! This is a great suggestion. They need to be able to cancel domains so the system will stop generating and sending them invoices - and so that it will cancel any unpaid invoices for future renewals that weren't renewed.

Very good suggestion! Whether it gets a lot of votes or not - it should be implemented because it's very good. And very much needed.

This is possible already. If a customer clicks do not renew in their billing area it won't be renewed. Or do you mean something different?

I think this refers to the invoices more specifically. I know this has been a long standing issue.

Services cancel any associated invoices when manually cancelled, i don't know about automatic terminations as i have not used them. I dont believe this to be the case with domains.

If a customer clicks do not renew, upcoming domain renewal notices are still sent out though. Annoying for the customer.

The logic here is that just because someone has disabled "automatic" renewals, doesn't necessarily mean that they don't want to renew the domain, so they should still be sent the reminders about the upcoming expiration. Do you not agree?

In response to the original request, disabling auto renewal for a domain will cancel any outstanding invoices for it at the same time, so that should already provide the functionality being requested here.

But the setting is called "Do not renew" not "Do not Automatically Renew" and because customers don't have a way to actually cancel a domain in their interface they treat this as the option to cancel.

Provide a cancel domain option, that then suppresses upcoming renewal notices and the problem is solved I guess.

But need churn logic in cancellation so that admin can know that which customer cancelled.... it makes more effective when we analyse on client who cancelled our product.
