It would be great if modules could add a few elements to the smarty variable stack for appending the menu.tpl and sidebar.tpl files, similar to how the {$addon_module_sidebar} is setup.
Something like {$addon_module_menu_custom} and {$addon_module_sidebar_custom}.
I like this idea
I would love this for the order templates.
