Sign up with username/login instead of e-mail address

thoraxe shared this idea 6 years ago
Under Consideration

Currently one must use an e-mail address as the primary means of logging into an account/subaccount. We're trying to leverage WHMCS to do some non-hosting things, and not having any kind of username for the login is proving troublesome.

It would be nice if the user could specify a desired login/username (i.e. johnnysue) when they first sign up. This would make it trivial to change the email address where information goes, which would not change how the end-user accesses the system.

While it's possible to sign up with a non-email address and then add an additional contact, the workflows for that would be rather bizarre.

A Nic-Handle system would be great. Something like this: http://help.ovh.co.uk/NicHandle

there are better things to work on right now in my opinion. Everyone and their cat have email addresses so its not hard to use email addresses for logins. Personally I get really frustrated with systems that use a separate username instead of a email address nowadays.

When you are using WHMCS to sell email accounts, you end up with a lovely chicken and egg problem where the email address you really want to use doesn't exist yet, and trying to manipulate the account contacts via the api is a huge pain.

We need this feature. The irs does not allow you to co mingle companies and to crest 1000 separate email addresses seems to be something that having account numbers would fix. I am not to pleased that the answer from support was to vote on a six year old thread that has not been addressed. I need to compete with godaddy and this puts us at a big disadvantage.

Hi there,

Thanks all for your votes and comments over the years. Unfortunately with an average of just 4 votes per year, this particular request has not yet demonstrated the demand we would need to make such a major change to the operation of WHMCS.

In order to keep an overview of the active requests in this site, we will archive this idea for now. However this does not mean that your idea has been declined.

If you still feel strongly about your request, we encourage you to post the idea again in future. Maybe then will be the right time to receive the support of our users for your suggestion?
