OpenSRS DNS Integration

Matthew R shared this idea 7 years ago
Under Consideration

We do not use the builtin cPanel DNS manager and instead use the DNS services provided by OpenSRS which is where we purchase our domains from.

Currently, no DNS edits can be made inside WHMCS, all dns changes need to be handled by us and by logging into the OpenSRS account and then editing the domain.

So much work has already been done with integrating OpenSRS, it would be great to see DNS added.

They do offer an API guide which is linked below.

http://www.opensrs.com/docs/dns_tppapi.pdf

The most requested features would be as follows.

View current DNS entries inside WHMCS admin area.

Add new A, MX, TXT, CNAME records

Edit A, MX, TXT, CNAME records

Remove A, MX, TXT, CNAME records

We have already paid WHMCS to do this so it should be coming out for all users soon.

The OpenSRS module from OpenSRS already does this.

Our DNS Manager For WHMCS is integrated with OpenSRS. This can be a solution for you: http://www.modulesgarden.com/products/whmcs/dns_manager/features

WHMCS needs to do this since the OpenSRS module from OpenSRS is buggy and doesnt seem well tested

didnt you say you already paid them to program it, what happened to that?

Ya I paid to have it all done back in 2014 and they said it would be in for everyone in v 5.4, they even gave me a test module that had some bugs. Now nothing. I emailed support again as Matt gave us his word it was going to be done and thats why we paid for it back then.

Have you tried the official OpenSRS module?

We too had the same problem, but using this new module as resolved that for us. Very easy to install and manage, not both we and our clients can make DNS edits.

Yes I have and its junk, like they dont even test it, it doesnt update domain renewal dates on two different installs we have. We switched back to the whmcs built in one and havent had a problem since. Then when I email them about the issues on both different installs they tell me to bad no one else has any issues and doesnt want to help. It doesnt matter now since I built a clean interface that allows our clients to update DNS with OpenSRS without making any code mods to the whmcs opensrs module. Plus my interface is way easier for our clients to understand and use then the built in whmcs one that the opensrs module uses as well. I have a new ticket open though to push WHMCS to get this module updated since our payment and their promise (even the testing version they gave us) also included ID protection which we need in there as well.

well I've given up waiting for either whcms or opensrs to create a module that actually provides the needed features. I am migrating to hexonet who actually has way better pricing, and full dns support in their whmcs module.
