Yashodhan Kulkarni shared this idea 4 years ago
Under Consideration

Integration of popular cloud storage services such as Dropbox, Box, Sugarsync, Amazon S3 / Glacier etc. for backing up WHMCS files & Database.

With following Options:

  • FULL Backup (All WHMCS Files & DB with configurable INSERT,DROP,UPDATE,CREATE)
  • Partial / Custom Backup - (WHMCS DB, Template, Modules/Plugins, Admin)
  • Database Only Backup (as already available)

I would have to vote no on this actually. The WHMCS backup is for emergency purposes like a server crash etc. It needs to be fast and reliable, and the current one is. The database is the only thing that needs to be backed up because the rest of your files should be backup via your server backup.

Are you crazy? Current WHMCS backup solution is no good, we need mature backup solutions because (i know) there must be many people like me using WHMCS have done heavy customization.

System backup is generic backup solution, but WHMCS Backup must be improved and made more portable.

Those who think its useless must have no idea on planning, mitigation & management in case of disasters.

Data is more important than any software, WHMCS is software which produces serious data for serious business where people invest their time, money and efforts to grow mutual relationship with customers throughout the world.

So it must come with better, error free and effortless backup and restore solutions.

It is need of time..

I agree on this!!

I use Dropbox and i think WHMCS should be Integrated into Dropbox in many ways, backups of system files/database etc, and, Dropbox should be integrated so that clients have the option to receive their invoice in their dropbox account.

Take PamFax for example, i as a PamFax customer have the option to receive my faxes inside my dropbox instead of logging into PamFax, integrating this way is like integrating facebook, the customers fropbox info isn't public nor any information made available to the WHMCS system.

In the PamFax portal, customers can click on the Dropbox option and link their dropbox to their PamFax account and once linked, i receive all my emails in my dropbox and the good thing is, when i link the accounts, i can even select the folder or sub-folder i want the faxes sent into.

So in this case, a WHMCS would login to the client area and link their dropbox with their email, password and select the folder or sub folder they want invoices or notifications sent to etc.

note: when it comes to linking the account to dropbox, it sends the email and password over the dropbox website whereas the client area remains as the frame kinda thing.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback and votes thus far.

When used in conjunction with cPanel, the new backup options in version 7.3 could be configured to save to a cloud storage location. This blog post shows how: https://blog.whmcs.com/133353/how-to-use-the-new-cpanel-backups-feature.

I hope you find that useful. Please keep voting and providing your feedback.

Hi,

In version 7.3 you added a new backup option that enable cPanel and sFTP as backup destinations.

Please add another option to schedule automatic updates directly to google drive.

The automatic backup should include several settings:

1. Backup interval.

2. Number of backup versions to keep (I.e. if the Interval is set to weekly backup and the number of version is set to 3- the google drive should include 3 backup files and after 3 weeks the 1st backup file (the oldest) should be replaced by a new backup.

3. an option to manually delete or create a backup to google drive by demand.

Thanks!

Ram
